THE BEGINNING In the 1840s, German Jewish immigrants brought Reform Judaism to San Antonio, establishing a Jewish cemetery and the Hebrew Benevolent Society. By 1874, Congregation Beth-El was founded as the city's rst Jewish synagogue, joining the Reform movement and embracing justice, freedom, and integration into American society. ur History Honor
